Mama and Daddy in Thailand

Just for 22 days, Daddy seems to be enjoying his stay here even though there's not that much to see around Wangnamyen. Since this is his first visit abroad, he doesn't expect to see many places. I bet he is very eager to see the Floating Market in Damnoen Saduak when he gets there because my hubby's workplace is near the world re-known tourist destination in Ratchaburi.

I am posting here pictures when we fetched them at the airport and some photos taken here in Wangnamyen.

The 3rd Parents-Teachers Edutainment (PTE)

For today, Suppawit School held the third Parents-Teachers Edutainment. The energetic general director briefed the parents with educational information on the school’s MEP goals and how parents can promote English speaking in their homes.

The agenda included English and Chinese speaking, phonics, crossword games , songs,puzzles and other interesting games. After all the entertaining activities, the parents went back home with a handful of materials and knowledge to teach their kids.

The school staff, students, and the seminar participants are very lucky to have her in our school. Suppawit School goes "Trilingual" in this sense.

Suppawit School celebrated its foundation day and our General Manager's birthday this morning (General Manager is also the Over-all Director of Saimit Suksa Affiliated Schools of which Suppawit School is a member) . A two-in-one fe'te which made everyone busy prepare for the event earlier. While the celebration is going on, the honoree, Dr. Salit Butnian (General Manager) is traveling from Australia after his three week educational trip. Everybody was informed that the show must go on even without his presence.

but we ante-dated the celebration since 24 is a Saturday.

My boss smilingly gave Frances the car key when she asked to borrow the golf car for us to drive her around the school park. She always do this when Daddy comes to visit us. Although I find time to drive her around, she is just excited to have Daddy bring us to the park.

When Frances was 2.5 years old, she could identify the 26 letters of the alphabet. Her favourite was the letter "Q". Now that she's 4 years old, she can write dictated- simple words like common names. She really likes to write our names continuously in one line :)

English Language Seminar

Our school conducts English Language Seminars intended to upgrade the parents' functional English literacy every first Saturday of the month . This started a month ago. Organized by the Parents-Teachers Association and the Community, this seminar was evaluated after the first session as a worthwhile activity for the parents of our students to share their language learning-teaching strategies.

The activities are focused on speaking-home language but some writing and reading are also integrated to facilitate learning among our participants.

The Kindergarten Department of Suppawit School did house visitation. It was an actual experience for the students to know more about their classmates, their family, and homes. Since Frances "Dao" is in Kindergarten and our apartment is the closest in school, the teachers decided to see ours first. Dao proudly showed her things to her classmates and teachers. One after the other: she demonstrated how to play her piano keyboard; brought out her dolls and displayed them; opened her desktop computer and showed how to open the 'paint' page; and she even opened my PC laptop for all to see. I was just there looking and observing how she acted as the host while preparing some mixed fruits for everybody. They enjoyed the "show" and I overheard some who said that Dao has got talents while they were partaking slices of fruits on their plates.

Frances "Dao" has traveled more than her Dad and me did. Her intermittent short stays in the Philippines made us realize that she should enjoy more what Thailand has to offer her here than spending her childhood life in my country.

My hubby and I went to fetch them at Suvarnabhumi Airport (pronounced as "Swannapoom"- I'm just wondering why the wrong transliteration is left uncorrected until now the fact that the sound "V" is non-existent in Thailand -which confuses foreigners who read it as SUVARNABAHUMI......).

Anyway, I am posting here our photos taken at the airport.

I am posting our pictures here taken during my hubby's graduation at Baiyoke Hotel, Bangkok on May 22, 2011.

This third photo is very special because it was taken by Frances when I requested her to be our photographer. Everybody was surprised to see a 3 years-10 months old taking pictures during the graduation program. Although it took her about a minute to have this photo taken, the people on stage were just kind enough to let her take the time. Thank you, Frances..

Woman's Power

There were 11 people - ten men and one woman - hanging onto a rope that came down from a helicopter.

They all decided that one person should get off, because if they didn't, the rope would break and everyone would die.

No one could decide who should go, so finally, the woman gave a really touching speech saying how she would give up her life to save the others, because women were used to giving up things for their husbands and children, giving in to men, and not receiving anything in return.

When she finished speaking, all the men started clapping.

Did you ever try sending an application letter and its attachment unchecked for the last minute before sealing the envelope? It would be embarrassing to have sent one with the wrong attachment, say, a copy of your grocery items or your income tax return. Related to this is a story below about a Registered Nurse who did not check what she sent to her prospective employer. Read on......

Catherine, a RN, was unhappy with her job, so she submitted her resignation. She was sure she'd have no trouble finding a new position, because of the nursing shortage in her area.

She e-mailed cover letters to dozens of potential employers and attached her resume to each one. Two weeks later, Catherine was dismayed and bewildered that she had not received even one request for an interview.

Finally she received a message from a prospective employer that explained the reason she hadn't heard from anyone else.

It read: "Your resume was not attached as stated. I do, however, want to thank you for the vegetable lasagna recipe."

Lesson: Always check the contents of application letters' envelope before posting them.

Greener Pasture?

I saw the chaotic and funny makings the teachers are into at the school where I am planning to stay. If I should be taken in, I will have lost a lot of the things I am enjoying now. Salary-wise, I do not consider it a greener pasture because I have to start from scratch. The "school" doesn't consider my more than 10 years teaching experiences. I also heard that I have to pay for my daughter's tuition fee while she enjoyed free eduction in the school where I teach now. I am enjoying the monthly allowance provided for by the local government which they do not have in that "brown pasture".

Wow, I just don't know what to do with this money we won in the lottery, so why don't you take it to the mall and see if you can find something to buy with it.

Pai Tiyao: Thailand's Safari World and Oasis Sea World

Pai Thong Tiyao (ไปท่องเที่ยว) is the Thai translation for "Go for a Tour" which really means going around to see places of interest like historical spots, temples, natural and man-made parks, beaches, and museums.

School days are over for the second semester and everybody was excited to see the Safari World in Minburi, Bangkok and a day's visit to the Oasis Sea World in Chanthaburi Province. Each teacher was assigned to look after a group of students during the two-day tour. The school provided us tourist buses and some foods for the activity. Everyone couldn't wait to see what was ahead of us in those places as we were briefed during the pre-tour meeting.

At the Safari World, we enjoyed seeing a range of African and Asian animals. I took some photos to display here.

Also, at the Oasis Sea World in Chanthaburi, the children were amused at how the dolphins were treated to rewards after performing great tricks. Amazing fishes!!!

When there are children to guide and look after, its' not that easy to get off lightly. They keep on dragging us to wander around even when we were all tired and hungry!!!

When God created men and women, he designed each gender to have its own distinct qualities.....each to have a different view about doing things,etc... The following differences between men and women really are very true. I have just realized the statements about "BATHROOMS", "SHOES", and "DRESSING UP" apply to me and my hubby...lol

NICKNAMES: If Gloria, Suzanne, Debra and Michelle go out for lunch, they will call each other Gloria, Suzanne, Debra and Michelle. But if Mike, Phil, Rob and Jack go out for a brewsky, they will affectionately refer to each other as Fat Boy, Godzilla, Peanut-Head and Useless.

EATING OUT: And when the check comes, Mike, Phil, Rob and Jack will each throw in $20 bills, even though it's only for $22.50. None of them will have anything smaller, and none will actually admit they want change back. When the girls get their check, out come the pocket calculators.

BATHROOMS: A man has six items in his bathroom-a toothbrush, shaving cream, razor, a bar of Dial soap, and a towel from the Holiday Inn. The average number of items in the typical woman's bathroom is 437. A man would not be able to identify most of these items.

A little boy was afraid of dark. One night his mother told him to go out to the back porch and bring her the broom. The little boy turned to his mother and said, "Mama, I don't want to go out there. It's dark."

The mother smiled reassuringly at her son. you don't have to be afraid of the dark," she explained. "Jesus is out there He'll look after you and protect you."

The little boy looked at his mother real hard and asked, "Are you sure he's out there?"

"Yes, I'm sure . He is everywhere, and he is always ready to help you when you need him." she said.

1. I don't do windows because ... I love birds and don't want one to run into a clean window and get hurt.

2. I don't wax floors because ... I am terrified a guest will slip, hurt themselves. I'll feel terrible and they may sue me.

3. I don't mind the dust bunnies because .... they are very good company. I have named most of them, and they agree with everything I say.

4. I don't disturb cobwebs because . I want every creature to have a home of their own and hubby loves spiders.

5. I don't Spring Clean because ... I love all the seasons and don't want the others to get jealous.

Johnny's Christmas Story

Here's something that made me smile........

Johnny returned from Sunday school with a new perspective on the Christmas story. He had learned all about the Wise Men from the East who brought gifts to the Baby Jesus. He was so excited he could hardly wait to tell his parents.

As soon as he arrived home, he immediately began, "I learned all about the very first Christmas in Sunday school today! There wasn't a Santa Claus way back then, so these three skinny guys on camels had to deliver all the toys!

"And Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer with his nose so bright wasn't there yet, so they had to have this big spotlight in the sky to find their way around!"

Merry Christmas!!!
It is too early for the greeting but I feel like I'm in to making this Christmas a real Christmas for the two of us (my hubby and me) this time, especially that we stay in different places now. It should be a romantic one because we really missed each other. Of course, Frances will have Christmas with her grannies afterwhich she will be baptized with her three cousins.

Maybe I will do the last minute shopping in crowded stores. I planned of preparing grilled chicken, macaroni salad, and some fruit cocktails. Hmmm.... How about you?

George and Samantha were having some problems at home and were giving each other the "silent treatment." But then George realized that he would need his wife to wake him at 5:00 am for an early morning drive with some pals to go golfing.

Not wanting to be the first to break the silence (and so lose the 'war'), he wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5:00am."

And another bad day!

There was an invitation for a one-man-show in Bangkok which costs 1,200 baht each ticket. The English teachers in our school were required to go see the show. There was no problem with this because the tickets were paid for by our school but everybody of us was so upset because nobody did not like the show. It sure was a stand-up comedy but we did not benefit from the show at all. It was just a waste of time. The comedian spoke in perfect Thai. Actually, his show was just a translation of some of the slap-sticks popular among the Northern people of Thailand. We could have appreciated if our boss explained beforehand that the actor was a young male American who speaks Thai and great at introducing jokes about offensive comedy themes in his show so that we could have stayed home and watched Tom and Jerry instead.

The thing was that- we came all the way from a far place (4 hours ride) just to make the guy rich in a minute with his offensive blah blahs. I just can't imagine what those little boys and girls were thinking during the show.... makes my hair stand on ends!!!yaiks!!!!

I'm very sorry for my rude comments but I don't want to be cool with such value-degrading show....

What a bad day!

Just this early afternoon, a caller from Hong Kong was inquiring about an account that's overdue from the use of "my" credit card. I knew he was calling from Hong Kong because the incoming number registered +88........... Duh! How could that be? I hate to tell that I long dreamt to have a credit card that's issued by a "big" bank but in no way to use it to purchase through online. I immediately contacted my bank and related the incident to which the officer-in-charge assuringly said that my account was not touched or virtually was not hacked. It came to my mind that I almost lost my hard-earned money to a swindler. He introduced himself as my bank's officer and was on his way to ask me numbers which rang the alarm! To safeguard my account, I changed my number and other information relating to my bank transactions. uh uh...

• Show them something new and colorful. Children are always curious, and whatever is new and colorful to their eyes is interesting. Show them books on beautiful places like the pyramids in Egypt or museums in Europe. Books with colorful drawings will also find ways to your children’s laps.

• Read as if you are acting in a play. More than reading, kids like watching. When you are reading to them, they would be more interested if you are also acting. Use as many facial expressions, different voices, and if you have time to be creative, make costumes that you can wear during reading time. By doing this, you can encourage children to participate in the activity. Before you know it, they will be asking for their own lines in your mini-play.

• Have a field trip. There are two places that are a must-see for you and your kids. First is the bookstore. Once you have successfully made your kids interested in books, take them to the bookstore to find books they want to read. The next one is where the children will be able to see for real the characters they are reading about. If they are reading about dinosaurs, take them to a dinosaur theme park. If they are reading about Disney characters, visit Disneyland – that is only if you can afford.

Suppawit School's Delousing Program

Our school availed of the Benzyl delousing agent from the government hospital.

Benzyl solution freed the students of Suppawit from louse. On Friday, the 17^th the school administered the delousing program . Delousing solutions were supplied to the school to help promote good health among students.

Students as well as parents were now happy . Busy parents need not to worry , when and how to delouse their kids but on the other hand it meant another job for the teachers.

All advisers were on their designated areas ready to combat the parasites. They patiently combed the Benzyl solution on the students’ hair and after some minutes, the shampooing and washing activities. These were the assigned tasks for the teacher aides .

The Filipinos have been singing American songs- traditional songs like "Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star" and we are always delighted with how we sing and interpret it through rhythmic movements. But what about these American choir members of Northwest Missouri State University singing our very own "Paru-parung Bukid" with Filipino grace? There were lots of encounters with the Thai people that made us smile, think and ponder whether it might be in our journey, in the market, at the neighborhood or even at work.

Here is one funny encounter with the garment shop sales clerk . One morning at the shop, I was looking for some shirts when the owner sensed my need.

Seller: Haa alai laka koon? ( Miss, what are you looking for?)

Me: Koon Pha, Nu kamlang ha sue- ah. ( Aunt, I am looking for shirts.)

The seller was surprised and got big eyes plus her facial expression ..

Seller : Arai ka?? Sue- ah la? (What? You’re looking for tigers??) Lol!

How could I look for a tiger in her garment shop? May be my tone in saying “sue –ah” sounded like the sound of “ sue-ah “ meaning tiger.

That’s the problem for us and it’s true to other foreigners ,too. Many Thai words have only one word with different sounds and meanings like;

Sue-ah (low) = mat

Sue-ah( high)= shirt

Sue-ah (falling tone) = tiger

But how about if I say in a sentence..

The tiger with a shirt sits on a mat that needs another shirt and mat.

The Bus Conductor

It was so dark and quiet at the bus station and the only late shops and spot lights along the road give glow to the place but even though Koko and I felt secured. It’s calmness was friendly until we realized it wasn’t our first time or second time . We hadn’t learned our lesson yet.

We were delighted when the bus arrived. We hopped in and passed by some passengers comfortably coiled sound asleep. The conductor came to our seats and gave our tickets without any word and went away but what surprised me was the figures on those small pieces of paper. Koko and I were speechless for a second staring at each other. We sensed something must be wrong. This bus was an ordinary one and normally, ordinary buses collect only 70, 75 or 80 Baht the most. The guy came back to collect fares so, I asked him pretending not to see the figures but he said it’s 80 Baht. I was puzzled so I showed him the ticket he gave earlier pointing at the figures but he disagreed by shaking his head. Koko gave him 200 Baht and later Koko got a change of 40 Baht. Another way of cheating us! Maybe the conductor was hoping that we would just give him what the ticket was asking for (100 baht each) but was dismayed when he knew that I am a frequent traveler and that I know the regular fare (80 baht).

What was that? We presumed the man ran out of ink to write the correct figure over the ready- made ticket. Lol! Koko silenced me with his finger not to be bothered again for the man doesn’t want to speak more. The only word that came out from his mouth was the 80 Baht plus his shaking head.

We rested quietly like other passengers and relaxed until we reached our place.

The Tricycle Man

Magically we did our buying for just a few seconds not because we knew the different sections but it was because we have to catch up for the ride otherwise , we have to stay overnight in this area.

My hubby and I sought refuge from the “sala” or the waiting shed while waiting for the bus. It was getting dark and it seemed we had missed the trip.

We patiently waited for any ride when we spotted one bus that was just abut to a trailer . Koko and I waived our hands for a stop but unluckily we missed it again! The trailer ahead covered us so, the bus driver didn’t see us. Huhuhu what should we do?

We didn’t lose hope and this time we called out for any cars or vans. It was really getting dark and the only light we had was the light from Tesco park.

We were seen by some tricycle drivers . One Samaritan driver came to us and offered his tricycle for 80 baht but I bargained for 50 Baht since normally it only cost 40 Baht but he didn’t agree. He assured us that there’ s a late bus coming by 8.00 p.m . We would have agreed to his wise decision to better go to the bus station but how about if we meet the bus along the way? We couldn’t decide at that very moment. The tricycle left us and directed us where to find him in case we would decide to take the ride.

Our parasites started to bother us so we decided to go back to Tesco for a quick dinner but before we stepped in ,the free Tesco - tricycle arrived and dislodged . We were lucky that this free-Tesco tricycle is still on duty so we took advantage. We went to the bus station for free! (NO more tricycle for 80 Baht.)

At The Mobile Shop

Whew! What a nice cool soothing air greeted us inside the mall.

We hurriedly took the escalator to the mobile shop. I couldn’t wait to get back my cell phone. I missed it soo much.

Koko gave the operator the claim stub. The latter checked my cell phone and there was it. He smilingly handed my I- mobile phone . I couldn’t explain how excited I was . I checked the cell but, Uuuugh I was despaired . The distracting waterfall like sound coming from a high elevated place wasn’t totally eliminated. Before the sound was soo disturbing that the other line couldn’t be heard clearly plus it irritates the eardrum. I told the seller to change the item or even better give back my money since it was newly bought but the shop doesn’t agree with my idea. But worst my anger was ignited when the seller told me I had to be thankful for there was a bit improvement in my phone. But what I like was, my phone should be functioning well like other cell phones do . It didn’t help even if I complain for looong hours. I gave it back to the operator for another examination while we did some shopping since we’re rushing. Why on earth we have to rush these days?

Magically we shopped everything we needed without missing our boxes of apple ciders. We really loved those and what a surprise ,I forgot my bad mood. Thanks God I felt a great relief. Tip toeing to the mobile shop I closed my fingers and prayed. Reaching the counter, the other sales lady greeted us with a piquant face with a large appealing eyes. I smiled at her ,too. My phone was freed from the virus!

Whew! Peace everyone. I am happy to go back home

Worst Memory Problem

Seems that this old couple are having trouble remembering things, so they sign up for a memory course. The course is wonderful and introduces them to a technique called word/name association. They come home and tell all their relatives, friends, and neighbors about it.

Inside The Van

At 1.30 pm we left Victory Monument . It was comforting for me inside the van after we're exhausted to extreme heat outside waiting for this ride.

I took the chance to sleep. I couldn't really explain how weary I was after those travels to Ratchaburi and now we're to be back to our place. After an hour , we stopped by a petrol station. Every passengers comforted themselves then the driver checked his list of the passengers as well as their exact destination. He noted it well for the passengers' comfort but along the way , I couldn't sleep since he had a lot of callers . He hang up but another line came in. Oh, if I couldn't control my mouth I'd tell him to concentrate driving instead of chatting and munching his junk food with his cup iced coffee. I didn't know if some passengers felt secured with this kind of driver. Sometimes he caught my eyes at his mirror side but couldn't sense what I was blazing at.

Good for some passengers they reached their destination already. I looked at the window, Yeehey!, in ten minutes more we'll be at TESCO,too. 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Oooops! Stop! Stop. Huhu the van driver forgot about us. I got mad and I tapped at his his shoulder to stop. It was late we passed by TESCO for about 200 meters. I complained because he wasn't attentive enough. YADAH YADAH!

Koko slided the door and we got down without closing the door due to my anger. Let him go down the from his throne and closed the door by himself.

At The Ticketing Counter

Wake up! Wake up! Now we’re in Victory Monument.

My droopy eyes weren‘t cooperative this time. Koko was gentleman enough to carry my bag and he kept a firm hold on my arm like a grandpa and a grand daughter crossing the road.

We stopped at a food shop for a quick late lunch. Our hungry parasites couldn’t complain anymore. After a decent meal, we headed directly to the van station bound for Aranya Prathet (near Cambodia border). Koko made the arrangement at the ticketing counter while I sat down on a long bench and cuddled my bag for more sleep.

What’s taking Koko so long? I opened my right eye and I could vision him plus four men at the counter(same group of drivers). My hubby’s face was as red as a tomato. I knew right away they were looking for our passports again.

I felt secured when Koko came to join me and I really couldn’t win over these droopy eyes. After a short nap I felt a slight touch on my shoulder and I could see a tall man with big muscles standing in front of me. He asked me if we weren’t Thais and I said yes. I dug out our passports and I showed him mine explaining everything in detail and before he left I told him in my unhappy tone. “Why, don’t you remember us? I smiled at him and told him we were dropping by Aranya Prathet because we would buy some groceries and personal needs. The 2 other guys couldn’t control themselves and sneered at their red-faced fellow. Lol!

I know they really didn’t care about it but I just like them (all 4 men) to bear in their minds that we were now unhappy with their service and shall change ride if they do the same act again and again. This was the second time that they checked on us and besides they were not policemen or immigration officers . How about if we didn’t bring our passports along with us? Then we couldn’t go back home? We were really not pleased this time because we’re their loyal costumers for more than 6 years. I was unhappy and I really liked to report this to their boss. They didn’t know I have their boss contact number.

Each of us has his /her own group of friends or peers. There are closest persons whom we entrust everything - even our secrets in life and whom we confide our joys, laughters and tears. And these persons are what we call our best friends. But there are other friends that come and go. There are also friends that say nice words in front of their friends’ face and they just want to listen to things they wanted to hear. When they’re hurt , they disappear. They just remember our importance when we are in great help or shortly when they are in dire need or when they need somebody to listen to their troubles. They need our shoulder to cry on. Those kinds of friends are our fair weather friends.(But I am lucky not to have any of fair weather friends.)

Friends, you are always in my heart where ever you are. I miss your company...

I was lucky to be blessed with many friends. They created a part in me. They are significant in my life. I really accept them as they are and they do likewise. It doesn’t really matter to us whatever religion we profess, social standing, or beliefs. It’s our trueness that matters. It’s but normal when there were times we really cannot appease everybody but the joy in there is we learn to forgive and forget and learn from it. That’s the time we say we understood each other and the closer we feel towards our friend.

But it’s saddening to find some friends whom we really love and regard as a family then in one spark of time we separate ways because of our destiny. Some of my friends went to Japan, Canada, Indonesia , back to the Philippines , Thailand and other countries .But as I said they are still my friends.

The "V.I P " Baggage

Inside the van, we were quietly settled feeling the cool soothing air after those looong tiring walk plus the double dealers. Bye -bye Ratchaburi.

It's nearly 12 noon and the van would leave for Victory Monument. One,two,three passengers were coming at a time. I was supposed to close my eyes when I spotted a mother and her baby. They were the last passengers and were heavily loaded. The husband was dealing with the driver. From my seat I overheard their conversation.

This was what transpired during the conversation:

Husband: My wife and my baby are bound to Victory Monument and this is their luggage.Where shall I put this?
Driver: At the back but you have to pay.
Husband: But why? We could just put the luggage at the back compartment.
Driver: It could be but still you have to pay 100Baht same as the passenger's fare.
Husband: That is a dead thing! How come you charge the same,50 Baht ,O.k!?

The husband finished the conversation by slamming the door after putting the luggage at the front seat then left.
We left silent but the driver's still unease with the luggage beside him. After a ten -minute drive of pondering , he stopped and put the luggage down away from its throne. Lol! I took a photo but it was too late for it took me a minute to dig for camera inside my stuff. The luggage was already away from its throne.

At The Train Station

After our appointment with the priest at Daruna Nu Kroh, we got inside the church for a silent prayer then took some photos and left with a peaceful heart .

As usual we have to walk for a distance to the waiting shed. It was terribly hot! We rested a while then we heard the looong horn blasted all the way by the driver (our reactions explained to the other passengers we're new to this place) announcing us passengers to be ready. It was our new experience and what surprised us the most was the fare. We were left mouth-opened when we discovered that the fare was only18 Baht as compared to the 300 and 400 baht the other drivers were charging us before!

We dropped Elia to her school and both of us had to find our way back to Victory Monument.From Victory to Aranya Prathet then our beloved Wangnamyen is our travel target. Thinking about the long travel and its disadvantages ,I suggested to take a train. Koko agreed as it seemed to be the best idea.

I asked the officer about the train trip and fare. Guess what? I was wrong . The fare was doubled and the worst is the train will be arriving at 4 pm.

We desperately took our baggage and headed to the van station bound to victory monument.

The Motor bike Man

The three of us complained of foot ache due to extreme fatigue. We had been walking for miles and were getting to nowhere and seemed the time runs so fast.

Elia decided to call her friend to make sure we're on the right tract. We crossed the road and asked the two guys for the station bound to Daruna Nu Kroh. They pointed left and right so this time I made sure I understood everything. I got my lesson at the Victory Monument. Do you remember? We followed their instruction exactly without missing any point and at last we're now standing at the right place.They were of great help!

We waited for sometime but it seemed not any single trace of pick- up as well as passengers except us in this place. Under the bridge were parked motorcycles and drivers enjoying their hammock tied between trees swinging back and forth. The motor cycle driver was intelligent and sensible. He offered for a ride and his rent but he has to have a company to drive us since his cute motorcycle was built only for maximum of two passengers.We agreed for the payment of 200 Baht and ( they will share) they brought us there. It was only twenty-minute ride!

Elia and I reached the place before Koko so, I gave the man the amount we agreed before we started but now he was asking for 20 Baht additional. I didn't give any cent because we already agreed with no extra charge.

Elia and I waited for Koko and got inside to meet the priest.

Obviously a text from the Philippines as it was evident in the country code.

Here's the text.

Congrats! Ur SIM # had won the Php.950,000.00 Thru electric raffle draw,Frm Aquino foundation. Pls. call me now. I'm atty. Rhea I. Mendez Info. dept. Banko Sentral ng Pilipinas...

Upon reading it, I know it's unbelievable. How can just anyone win without buying the lottery ticket?And I didn't join any Philippine raffle for that matter! This is a big lie!

This wasn't the only time I got a text like this. My mom,too got one and was flabbergasted.At first my mom and I responded to the text in our hope we'll have the said amount' till such time the sender wanted my bank account and some other relevant information but at the end we ignored that mouth watering amount.

Have you got one? Maybe even the President had one?.Lol!

How easy my life could be if that's the case.Then I would just sit at home and enjoy every moment without lifting any finger.

Lesson: Nothing is free in this world. This is impossible!

Another Double-Dealer

We were getting late for our appointment but we couldn’t just waste our money to another double- dealer.

We almost toured around the market when we saw another pick-up. We were hoping he isn’t a kin of that beguiler man.

As I was the one who can speak Thai fluently, it was then my duty to inquire and to bargain. Before I could complain ,the two pushed me near the pick-up. I hesitantly asked the man for a ride but unfortunately he was bound to another side of the globe. Lol! In his hope to gain more money , he persuaded us for a single trip of 400Baht. It would mean 800Baht for two ways. It seemed that as we walked farther the more these double dealers wanted to milk us.

We were on the go when we heard him in his coaxing tone ,” Ao mai nu? Mai mee rot laew na. Tur atjai pai mai tahn nad kadai na.” (Do you want to take a ride ? There’s no available trip and you might be late in your appointment.” I smiled and said in my gracious humor, “ Thank you, uncle and never mind. There’s nothing to worry about.”( the priest will be in the church anyway.)

Another treacherous man!

The Pick-up Driver1

Early Sunday morning at six, we(Elia,Koko,Me) walked to the market to get a "Song tew" pick-up truck to Daruna Church for an appointment with the priest.

We had been walking for a long distance but we couldn't see any "Song tew " around. Elia was happy to spot one. I presumed the man, shaving his beard with his mouth tilted infront of a tiny mirror was the driver. "Kothot na ka, Kun loong ka, Rao ja pai Daruna Nu Kroh . Tae rao tawng nag rot tee nai dee ka?'' ( Excuse me. Uncle ,were going to Daruna Nu Kroh. Where shall we take a ride?) Uncle put down his blade and told us there weren't any trip today since it was a Sunday.I decided to ask his car rent but it seemed to us that he over priced. He suggested for 300 Baht per trip. Quickly my brain did the calculation.

Oh, uncle must be taking advantage for there were no other cars available yet. We thanked him and left. After a few steps I looked back and saw him shaving. Hehehe. I'm used to dealing with people like him.

At The Van station

Thanks God. After the confusing directions by the bystanders, we're able to locate the right place.

At the van station,the ticketing woman noticed we're not Thais so, she tried her English. "You go to RATBURI?" I was astonished by her English so, I said"Yes, we are going to Daruna school.''. The woman understood and gave us our ticket of 120 Baht each. My hubby paid and she gave him back his 60 Baht change. She sent us inside the van. After waiting for some passengers, the ticketing woman approached to us and asked my husband if how much change he gave her. My eyebrows met and my eyeballs began to move from left to right.Unluckily Koko himself couldn't remember. Old Age syndrome? I butted in. I explained that Koko gave her bills by the hundreds but wasn't sure,too if 2 or 3 bills in hundreds. She seemed to recall and she apologized and left. I discussed it with my husband but it seemed Koko couldn't rewind his memory. (proof of old age)

I got off from the van and asked the woman in my friendly tone but she just said,"sorry, sorry. Nevermind."but I couldn't be at peace if it was unsettled. I was afraid she might be repaying her boss if she did the miscalculation.We pondered inside the van. The 60 Baht is not much to be stolen from somebody's purse right?
We decided to gave her back the change though she was hesitant . Whether she was playing trick on us but what we wanted was a safe trip and no grudges.

We headed to Daruna-Ratchaburi and after an hour and thirty minutes ride the driver stopped by a food shop and announced to the remaining passengers ,"Ratburi! Ratburi !" Before I had the chance to ask the man , he told us to get down the van and take the car parked in front or else it will leave and have to wait for another upcoming scheduled van. Both drivers talked with each other and I saw the latter nodded his head. I began to worry so I went to the older man and told him we were bound to Daruna School. He explained he couldn't take us but instead the other driver will take us there and not to worry for the fare.Actually that's what I wanted to know. It's free! So, we had to hurry before the driver changed his mind.

At The Victory Monument

As early as 4.00a .m, we (Koko and me) prepared ourselves for our travel to Ratchaburi. The van picked us up at 4.30 and safely we reached Victory-Bangkok after the three hours and thirty minutes ride. Though we were still sleepy, we were able to find the van station after all the confusing directions given by the bystanders.

I rang Elia for the direction to her place and she instructed to take a van under the foot bridge. She was assuming I got it clearly but as I looked around the rotonda ,OMG! there wasn't only one or two foot bridges but maybe more than ten! So, which one?

My hubby bought a cell card so we could have something to use whenever we run out of money in our phones.We decided to ask the man near those vans parked picking up passengers. "Kothot ka, rot tu ti pai Ratchaburi jot tee nai ka?'' (Excuse me. Where is the van station for Ratchaburi?) The man wasn't so sure so he asked me again, "Ratburi la krap?'( Do you mean Ratburi?) I said to the man clearly that it was RATCHABURI but he got a facial expression so my hubby said ," Yes, Ratburi ", so I turned to my husband and said "not Ratburi but we're going to Ratchaburi. ,right?" Koko just rembered that Thais accustomed themselves to writing things or names of places the way they wanted to not as the way they arepronounced, like:
   (spelled) Ratchaburi= (they say) Ratburi
   Chantaburi= Chanburi
   Pattumthani= Pattong
   Suvarnabhumi airport= Suvannabhum airport
It's sooooo confusing! At the end the man understood we were bound to Ratburi so he said it is near the C.R. (comfort room). Now, we had to go around where that C.R. was. It's sad we couldn't locate.
We saw a bystander and we asked again for Ratchaburi but this time I said Ratburi. The man was nodding his head and pointed to the place. We were glad we didn't need to argue how to say the name of the place. We made sure we were going to the right direction as he instructed. After a few steps we were standing in front of a food shop. We were not buying food ?? No, no, no was that guy joking on us to eat some food first?Oh, enough asking strangers! We'd rather read the placards. Why didn't we did that in the first place the fact that we can read Thai? LOL. A case of stupidity on our part?

Thank God we're able to find the station. We ended up laughing. The truth is we passed by the station .Haven't we got four eyes. I couldn't imagine ourselves being directed, go straight, to the left ,to the right 'til we were lost.

Oooops! It's not yet the end of my story. What happened next?

It’s so inspiring to see Jedja (my grade 1 student) happy working at his coloring book. I cracked a joke today and it took my students’ heart away- away from reality.(when I say reality I mean “The hard day.”)My students were really happy, especially Jedja.

Jedja is a healthy boy with a cute smile. Whenever he smiles, his missing-four-front-teeth make him so cute and I couldn’t help myself but smile.

I have to keep my correct guess that every time I step into their class, Jedja always smile and approach me. He taps at my shoulder and whispers , “Teacher, we wanna play game.” So I let them played for at least three minutes in class. This made all of the students very happy.

Today I decided to have a diet plan. I am tired of wearing big sized skirts, pants and shirts. Hughhh! I couldn’t wear my 29 sized pants nowadays. My clothes were uncomfortable with me if I only know. Hu hu hu. I plan to have these veggies and fruit juices hoping it would help , too. Enough to slimming pills, fat burners or coffee slim. All I earned were tons of weight. Oh, it hurts me more. Enough! Enough!

I must say , “thank you” to the farmers for without them I don’t have this plate of rice set before me . Every single seed of rice I eat was because of the hard work of the farmers. My plate of rice lies to their callused hands. How patient they are! They never surrendered even in times of catastrophe. Never ending tolerance tending in the field. Even how sunny ,windy or rainy day it was and even how much would mother nature bitterly play on them, they were there firmly standing at their own feet. I salute them. They must be the heroes for they save millions of mouths.

Big Cleaning Day!

Wake up! Wake up! It’s Saturday! I really liked to sleep some more since I couldn’t enjoy this on week days but my conscience is bothering me . I couldn’t sleep happily when there’s my mind whispering, “ clean! Clean!” It was been two weeks that these cob webs in the corner had been enjoying the ambiance of our house.

Since my mother went back home to the Philippines, Koko(my hubby’s nickname) and I need to do the cleaning. I hate cleaning in general. I mean I love cleaning when I am in good mood.

I got up and found Koko in his cute garden harvesting long beans. I had to do my share of work in the house. I decided to clean the bathroom first. I got Mr. Duck, splashed to all the sides then scrubbed the tiles and finally, splashed water all over the place. Hmmm! It’s clean .Do you know why I preferred to clean it? It was because the bathroom is one of my favorite part of the house and I like cleaning with water. I left the kitchen for my husband! Pssssst! Mr.Koko didn’t know about my game. Ha ha. I was free of the kitchen. Quick as I could , I took the pile of clothes and headed to the laundry area. I didn’t want Koko to do the washing because…….. the washing machine was there ready to help me. So wise!!

Mr. Koko came and proudly presented his product and kept the beans in the ref. He noticed the shining bathroom and said, “Wow! The bathroom looks clean today huh?.” Smilingly I said, “Thank you.” I took advantage of him, “Daddy, I cleaned the bathroom already and I like to finish these laundry before it rains.”I was supposed to blah blah more but my husband said, “Playing trick again, Ok , I will take care of the kitchen.” He he my sweet dear couldn’t complain. Ok, solved.

From my place I could see my hubby sweeping (up to the ceiling down to the floor, left to the window, right to the door). He’s done! But he did it like what Tom does in “Tom and Jerry”.

Don’t get me wrong. I can clean the house but my hubby is just helpful. See you soon ………….

I’ve Got Guavas!

I got bored facing my laptop. I’ve got droopy eyes. I couldn’t set my mind into writing and my cough had been bothering me for more than two weeks. Hough! I’d gotta stretch my arms before my eyes closed.

As I was standing outside my classroom yawning and stretching , I noticed a woman walking coming in the school. She was in a yellow shirt and maybe that’s the reason why I got attracted. My eyes got big. There she was, I could see her clearly. oooppss!! It’s was Pi Daeng! She was handing a bag to the student. I simply waved my hand hoping she would recognize me but there she was walking towards the gate. I got back to my laptop and began to scroll pictures for my blog. Suddenly, I heard a knock at my door and the student was handing a bag and said, “ KUN PHA AO MA HAI” . (Aunt gave it.) Wow! A bag of guavas. I knew right away. It was Pi Daeng who gave me. I gave her a call and thanked. Pi Daeng was very nice to my family. She used to visit me to learn English . Thank you, Pi Daeng!!

Anybody out there who likes to eat guava?

Frances Has Got A Polka Dot Dress!

The good thing with Frances is that she appreciates simple things whatever mommy,daddy or granny has given her.Her sweet little voice,"Thank you, mommy","Thank you ,Daddy" mean a lot to us.We missed that much.

A week after she had her Teddy skirt was her Polka Dot dress. She was so thankful to have her polka dot dress. I knew she loved to have a memory of those with her note ,"Mommy, picture...picture".After her pictorial she went out with mom's high heeled shoes and knocked at the doors to announce ,"Look what mommy made for me. " Ha ha! The Thai neighbors would always say " Suwai jang Leuy"(It's so beautiful) then gave her sweets.Frances ended up wearing her dress the whole day.Wow, Frances has got many treasures!

Who is the wisest of them all?

Eleven people were hanging on a rope under a helicopter, ten men and one woman. The rope was not strong enough to carry them all, so they decided that one has to drop off, otherwise they are all going to fall. They were not able to choose that person, but then the woman made a very touching speech. “Wow ! Suwai Jang Luey!”, said Frances in Thai ( Wow. It’s so beautiful.)upon looking at her hand sewn skirt by mommy. It was her inexplicable day! Frances has got a new Teddy skirt. Frances was so happy to pair it with her yellow shirt. She went out to show off to the neighborhood. Actually, Frances loves everything that has teddy bear and teddy designs so its no wonder she liked the skirt made from my curtain’s remaining piece.
